There are three ski resorts around Chengdu: Xiling Snow Mountain Ski Resort, Jiudingshan Prince Ridge Ski Resort, and Emeishan Ski Resort.
- Xiling Snow Mountain Ski Resort
Referred to as the Oriental Alps, Xiling Snow Mountain Ski Resort, covering an area of over 375 hectares, is considered to be one of the most successful ski resorts in China. Located in the west of Chengdu city, it takes about 2½ hours to get there by car.
China's best alpine ski resort
As a well-equipped ski resort, Xiling Snow Mountain Ski Resort maintains a minimum stock of 2,000 rental ski sets as well as a fleet of 35–40 snowmobiles that can be rented. In recent years, more and more tourists have flocked to Xiling Snow Mountain Ski Resort, so queuing is inevitable from time to time, especially on weekends and during the Spring Festival holiday.
There are Chinese and Western bars and restaurants at the ski resort.
Yinxue Hotel: Opened in 2012, Yinxue Hotel is located halfway up Xiling Snow Mountain, very close to the cableway and shuttle bus station. A floor heating system is applied to keep the rooms cozy. You will need to take the cableway up to get to the hotel. Since the cableway closes at 5pm, it's recommended you arrive before 4pm to allow enough time for queuing.
Scandina Resort Hotel: Consisting of eight Nordic-style villas, the resort is considered to be the best hotel on Xiling Snow Mountain. There are only 38 rooms, so early booking is recommended.
A two-day tour with one night's stay in the resort is recommended:
Day 1: Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Chengdu and escort you directly to the resort. Arrive at noon, check-in to the hotel, and enjoy lunch. Start the skiing tour in the afternoon. Stay overnight in the resort.
Day 2: Enjoy more skiing in the morning and have lunch. Go back to Chengdu in the afternoon.
- Jiudingshan Prince Ridge Ski Resort
Newly opened on December 13, 2014, Jiudingshan Prince Ridge Ski Resort is now the largest and best ski resort in southwest China. About 165 kilometers (102 miles) from Chengdu city, it is a 3-hour drive to get there.
New equipment and fewer tourists.
During the 2014–2015 snow season, Jiudingshan Prince Ridge Ski Resort opened 13 pistes, with a total length of 4,200 meters (3 miles), including eight beginner pistes, two middle-level pistes, and three advanced level pistes. The resort can accommodate 5,000 tourists daily..
There are two restaurants at the resort which can accommodate 2,000 people at the same time, supplying Tibetan dishes, such as yak meat, mutton, and wild mushrooms.
Hemingzhuang Hotel: Hemingzhuang Hotel is the only hotel in Jiudingshan Prince Ridge Ski Resort. It is a 4-star level hotel with over 80 rooms. All the rooms are decorated with wooden sauna boards that have a heating supply. Early booking is highly recommended.
If you are also interested in historical sites, you can combine the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project with the skiing tour in two days:

- Emeishan Ski Resort
Emeishan Ski Resort is located at the top of Mount Emei, close to Leidongping Parking Lot. To get there from Chengdu, it takes about 3½ hours to reach the entrance of Mount Emei, then another two hours to get to the ski resort.

One alpine piste (2,000 meters/1.2 miles), one middle-level Nordic trail (3,000 meters/1.8 miles), one beginner piste, and a play and snow sculpting area for children.
There are a few local restaurants near Leidongping Parking Lot. The facilities are basic but the flavors are okay.
Hongzhushan Hotel: Located at the foot of Mount Emei, it takes only five minutes to get to the entrance by car.
It's recommended to combine the Leshan Giant Buddha and Gold Summit with skiing to make a three-day tour:
Day 1: Set off from Chengdu and arrive at the Leshan Giant Buddha in two hours. Climb up to the Buddha and then head to Emeishan City (one hour). Arrive in the late afternoon and stay overnight in a hotel at the foot of Mount Emei.
Day 2: Get up early as it takes about two hours to reach Gold Summit. After the Gold Summit tour, enjoy lunch near Leidongping Parking Lot and go down to the Emeishan Ski Resort to start skiing in the afternoon. Get back to the hotel at the foot of the mountain for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Check-out and go back to Chengdu.
The best time to ski around Chengdu is from mid-December to early March, when the snow conditions remain stable. The snow on the pistes quickly reaches a depth of 60 centimeters when it snows, and remains at 60–80 centimeters deep during this period.
Note: It's recommended to avoid the Spring Festival holiday and weekends, when there will be crowds of local people and queuing is definitely inevitable. What's more, the price will be higher on weekends and triple during holidays. (Weekends are Friday to Sunday. The Spring Festival holiday of 2016 is from February 7 to 13).
