Weather: December is cool. The average daily high temperature is 20 °C (68 °F), and the average low temperature is 14 °C (67 °F). Winter begins in mid-December or late December when the temperatures drop and dry and clear weather sets in. It is warm during the day, but evenings get cold.
Because it seldom rains (about 4 days each December), the month is one of the driest of the year.
Clothing: Wear long trousers and a light sweater/jacket during the daytime, and bring a coat for the cold nights. On the whole, it is a relatively comfortable month.
Christmas Celebrations: Hotels and restaurants in Macau unveil their Christmas season menu, and Christmas decorations, nativity scenes and lights abound. The Galaxy Macau and the Venetian are where you can expect major extravaganzas. The Venetian will host the National Ballet of China for the Nutcracker and also Swan Lake on Ice around Christmas. The Galaxy will have the Christmas Dreamland program until December 26.
Christmas is a major holiday in the city. Christmas Eve (December 24) and Christmas Day are official Macau public holidays. Both days and December 26 as well are bank holidays.
Hong Kong Winter Festival: Hong Kong is marvelous city to visit during the Christmas season, and it is only an hour away by fast ferry. The Winter Festival is filled with stunning beauty, twinkling lights, and old world tradition. Carolers celebrate in the local fashion. The CNN network called the Winter Fest one of the ten best events in the world.
Special Administrative Region Establishment Day: Macau was returned to China on December 20, 1999. Activities and celebrations are sponsored by the government.
Hong Kong's New Year Celebrations: Victoria Harbor is the site of a fireworks display on New Year's Eve. There is a countdown just before the strike of midnight, and then the crowds watch the fireworks, the laser lights, and the flashing buildings with their colorful lights and decorations.

Macau represents a combination of Chinese and Portuguese culture, which is reflected in Macau’s many places of historic interest and scenic beauty. The Ruins of St Paul Cathedral (ruins of the greatest church in Macau combined with the architectural styles of Europe and the East) are a symbol of Macau. If you are interested in Macau’s history, the Historic Center of Macau is a great place to visit. Visit here for more information: http://www.chinahighlights.com/macau/attraction/
