Kunming Weather in August

August falls during the rainy season. The weather is almost the same as July, with a maximum temperature of 24 °C (75 °F) and a minimum temperature of 16 °C (61 °F). You can dress in a T-shirt and long trousers on nice days. On rainy days, a T-shirt with a light coat and long trousers are recommended. Ultraviolet radiation is strong so wear sunscreen (SPF 20 and PA++) to protect your skin when you’re outdoors. When you go out, take an umbrella with you.

August is also in the peak travel season, and tourist attractions are very crowded. Hotel rates and flights are considerably higher than usual, so book in advance. What are possibilities of rain in the second week of August in Kunming

We are thinking of travelling to Chengdu, Lijiang, Dali and Kunming in August 2011 - we are concerned about the rain -during August on average how many days does it rain and do you think this will effect our trip - would be be better to plan this trip for April, May 2012? Thanks

Hi Ron,

The rain season starts at June and end in August in Chengdu, so August is not the most rainy season.

May is the rain season in Kunming, so it wouldn't affect your tour in August.

From June through August is the shoulder season and price drop a little!

There are many vegetarian restaurants in Kunming.

1. Yuquanzhai Vegetarian Restaurant (玉泉斋素食餐厅); Address: 2nd/F of Grand Hotel (大光明酒店), No.88, Pingzheng Street.

2. Zhongnong Organic Vegetarian Restaurant (中农有机生态素食餐厅); Address: Xingjie Building (兴杰大厦)，No.156, Wuyi Road （五一路）.

3. Yuantong Four Seasons Hotel (圆通四季酒店) sitting opposite to Yuantong Temple; Address: No.88, Pingzheng Street.
