Considering the long journey duration on the high-speed trains, we recommend you consider the Z trains that run between Shenzhen and Xi'an, which are the fastest type of normal-speed train.
You can also consider taking a flight. Over 35 pairs of flights operate between Shenzhen and Xi'an every day and the journey duration is about 3 hours. The full airfare is about 2,700 CNY (392 USD).
However, you can check to see if there are any discounts in advance. Sometimes, you can find very good discounts, such as 30% off in May 2023. With a discount, the price is only about 1,890 CNY (275 USD) for an economy-class seat.
