Hangzhou is the "most splendid and luxurious city in the world", said Marco Polo (1254-1324), a famous Italian traveler in the 13th century.
It is a picturesque city in the central part of China.
It was once the capital city of the Song dynasty(960-1279). Its natural beauty and history enthrall visitors from all over the world.
Different people have different feelings about the city. Older people can relax there, younger people experience romance there and children can have fun there. No matter what age, everyone loves this city.
Below are some recommended places for you to visit if you are visiting Hangzhou with children.
West Lake is the most beautiful attraction in Hangzhou. It is a must-see attraction for both young and old. You will see exactly what is depicted in Chinese paintings. There are several ways of visiting. People with kids can rent bicycles or take a tram round the lake, as it is quite big.
It is interesting to rent a bicycle and ride round the lake with your kids, enjoying the views, taking pictures, and stopping for coffee or tea.
Taking a boat on the lake is also fantastic. If you happen to know the story of the White Snake, you can tell the kids while you are on the boat, as they enjoy fairy tales.
If you get onto Su Causeway, near the south end you will see a bridge going west to a park known as the Flower Pond (花港). It's really beautiful and worth a visit. You can see lots of golden fish in the park and there are kiosks that sell fish food for 3 yuan a bag. Buy some and feed the carp with your kids; it is fun to watch the golden carps go crazy over the food. The best place to feed them is from the bridge.
In China, Meijiawu village is a famous longjing tea plantation. It is 13 kilometers (8 miles), or 30 minutes’ drive, west of West Lake.
Meijiawu is an idyllic place for a family tour to spend a relaxing holiday in close contact with nature. Both children and parents can have fun and learn about Chinese tea culture there.
There are plenty of tea plantations there, and a bamboo forest. Children can play freely in the forest. It is very green in spring. The whole village is full of the fragrance of tea. You can have a stroll with kids, breathe the fresh air and observe the beautiful scenery.
Moreover, your kids can learn something and have a special experience. There are more than 500 local tea farmers living there. It is a good opportunity to learn about Chinese tea culture.
You can pick tea leaves with your kids, take part in a Chinese tea ceremony, and eat delicious tea food. Everything you and your kids experience at Meijiawu will be unforgettable.
