Luoyang has a temperate continental climate. Spring in Luoyang is warm while summer is hot and rainy. Autumn has the best weather but peak season prices apply, however, and it is more crowded. Winter is cold and sometimes it snows.
The coldest month is January with an average daily high of 7°C (45°F). The hottest months are June and July with average daily highs of 33°C (91°F).
The annual rainfall is 60 centimeters (23.6 inches), which is concentrated in the rainy season — summer. July and August are the wettest months with about 14 cm (5.5 inches) and 10 cm (4 inches) of rain, respectively. December and January are the driest months with 8 mm (0.3 inches) of rain per month.
The weather in Luoyang from March to May is warm with less rainfall. It is suitable for outdoor activities. Luoyang is famous for its beautiful peonies — Luoyang Peony Festival is held from April to early May each year. April is the best time to see these gorgeous peonies.
Autumn has the most comfortable weather conditions and is the best time to visit Luoyang. The daily average temperature from September to November is 21°C (70°F). The comfortable weather will make your tour more pleasant.
Spring in Luoyang is from March to May.
Spring weather: March is a relatively cold month. The weather warms up during April and it starts to get hot in May.
Precipitation in spring: There is not much rain in spring. The precipitation from March to May is 60 millimeters (2.4 inches), 38.1 millimeters (1.5 inches), and 50.8 millimeters (2 inches), respectively.
Air quality in spring: The air quality in March is not particularly good but it gets better in April and May.
Clothing: A jacket or a lightweight sweater is suitable in March. In April, a thin coat is adequate. At the end of April, the temperature begins to rise and a T-shirt is suitable. A shirt is appropriate in May. The temperature will drop in the evening so a thin coat will be useful. At the end of May, the temperature rises and, generally, a summer suit is suitable for the high temperature.
April and May are in the peak travel season due to the Luoyang Peony Festival and Labor Day holiday between May 1st and 3rd.

Summer is from June to August.

Clothing: Summer clothes are adequate in September but take a shirt and long trousers in case the temperature falls. A shirt with a coat or jacket and long trousers are appropriate in October. Warm clothing is best in case there is cold weather in the evenings. Some warm clothing, such as a sweater and an overcoat, is necessary in November.
The nice weather and holidays make September and October good months to have a tour in Luoyang. Booking your hotel and tickets in advance is necessary if you plan to travel in these peak travel times.
November is in the off-season. Many attractions are not crowded. The hotel prices and tickets are moderate — you may get a discount sometimes. It may save you a lot of money if you plan to travel in November.
Winter in Luoyang is from December to February.

Precipitation in winter: Winter is the driest season — the total precipitation is 2.5 centimeters (1 inch).
Air quality in winter: The air quality in winter is bad. If you are very sensitive to smog, tell your travel advisor or guide, and they will prepare a mask for you.
Clothing: You will need to wear warm winter clothing. A thick sweater, overcoat, and boots are appropriate. It is heated indoors in winter. When you go outside, gloves and a scarf are necessary.
Winter is in the low travel season. If you want to have a quieter tour or experience China’s grandest festival – the Spring Festival – it is a good time to travel.
