Weather: Wuhan is known for rainy and hot weather in July unlike other cities in central northern China with dry-heat weather. It is the hottest month of the year. The average nightly low temperature is a comfortable 25 °C (77 °F), and the average daily high temperature is 33 °C (91 °F).

The humidity at 80%, plus the heat, makes it sweltering many days. Especially in the broad inner city concrete and asphalt expanses, the city swelters in the heat and temperatures may rise above 40 °C (104 °C). This gives the city the reputation of being one of China's "Three Furnace Cities."

It is the second most rainy month. There are heavy thunderstorms sometimes, but it is often sunny. It is cloudy about 26 percent of the time. The monthly precipitation totals 191 mm, and it rains in about 11 days of the month.

Pollution: The Air Quality Index is good at 74. Check Wuhan's current weather forecast>>

Clothing: Summer clothing such as T-shirts, shorts, or skirts are appropriate for this weather. Have an umbrella or rain gear handy on days when rain is forecasted.

Low Travel Month

July is a low travel season in Wuhan. Wuhan is a city with many universities and colleges, and tens of thousands of university students and staff leave Wuhan for summer break in July. So there is a travel rush out of the city when the term ends. The attractions are actually less crowded. Wuhan flights, train tickets and hotel rooms are easier to get and generally less expensive.
