Kunming Weather in March

Weather: The weather is generally dry, cool and sunny in March. The average high temperature is 21 °C (70 °F), and the average low temperature is 6 °C (43 °F). Most tourists will find the temperature to be pleasant on sunny days. It rains only about 6 days of the month. There is only about 20 mm of total precipitation. Things to Do in Kunming in March

March is a good time to enjoy the natural spring scenery. The local people take spring trips to mountains and parks to enjoy blossoms.

View the Redlands of Dongchuan: An ideal place near Kunming to see the early spring scenery is at Dongchuan. It is called the "red lands" because the soil is unusually red. It is known as a particularly beautiful rural area where the locals are friendly. It is three hours outside of Kunming by fast vehicle.

As soon as you leave Kunming, the scenery turns beautiful going past mountains, streams, and smaller and smaller towns and villages. At Dongchuan, you'll see carts pulled by donkeys and oxen on the roads. It is a place to go to experience a rural part of China and see farmers and animals.

Stone Forest

Explore Stone Forest Park: This is a Geopark with several square miles of stone pillars, ravines, pits, and caves. Some areas look like a forest of conifers. By climbing Lion Pavilion (Shizi Ting) that is the highest point in the park, you can see the whole area. Be careful as you hike. A slip might be dangerous, so wear good shoes with good traction. The Geopark is about 1 and a half hours from the center of Kunming.

Spelunk at the Jiuxiang Caves: One of the highlights of the area is only two hours from the center of Kunming. It is one of the biggest caves in China. The tour starts with a short boat cruise in the river. The giant caves include waterfalls, underground rivers and streams, and many beautiful scenes that are highlighted with bright lights.

It is cool inside. You can take an extended walk inside that lasts three hours. To avoid slipping, wear comfortable shoes with good traction. Before you finish the tour, you could go back down on the cable cars and enjoy the breathtaking green scenery. You could also hike for several hours back to the parking lot.
