Things to Do in Kunming in April
April is a good season to see flowers in Kunming, and the weather is more pleasant than in March. Many tourists come to enjoy the outdoors in April.
Visit Green Lake Park: This is a popular city park at the main gate of Yunnan University, and it is near Kunming Zoo. Migratory birds stop there during their migrations. Among these are the popular Siberian seagulls that the locals really enjoy feeding. On sunny days, artists paint and musicians play, and people exercise or go out on small boats on the lake. There is no entrance fee. Local buses 1 and 101 go there as does Bus 133 from Carrefour Plaza.
Spring scenery in DongchuanSee the Redlands of Dongchuan: A three hour drive from Kunming, there is a rural area of peasant farmers called Dongchuan. It is a good place to see the spring scenery. It is called "red lands" because the ground is unusually red. It is a particularly beautiful rural area where the locals are friendly.
On the road to Dongchuan, you'll travel past mountains, streams, and smaller and smaller towns and villages. At Dongchuan, you'll see carts pulled by donkeys and oxen. Experience a rural part of China and see the farmers and animals. It is good place for for a day tour, and it is a favorite region for photographers since the vivid colors change continually.
