The transportation between these two big cities in South China is very convenient and efficient. Travelers can take a train or coach to come and go between Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Every day there are more than 230 pairs of trains running between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, including three kinds of trains: high-speed trains (G), intercity high-speed trains (C), and normal trains (K, T, or Z).
For train schedules, ticket prices, and ticket booking, please check out China Train Search.
There are about 90 intercity high-speed trains (the train number starts with C) operating from Guangzhou to Shenzhen. The trains depart from all four of the passenger railway stations in Guangzhou and you can select your train depending on where you are.
The ticket for a first-class seat is 99.5 yuan (14 USD) and a second-class seat is 79.5 yuan (11 USD).
There are over 100 high-speed trains (the train number starts with G) departing from Guangzhou to Shenzhen every day. The trains depart from Guangzhou South Railway Station (plus about 10 trains from Guangzhou North Railway Station) to Shenzhen North Railway Station.
For G trains that depart from the two stations further away from the downtown area, you may need to set aside 1 to 2 hours to reach the station before your train departs.
The ticket prices for first- and second-class seats in G trains are the same as C trains. There are luxury business-class seats in G trains, which cost twice the price of first-class seats.
Every day, there are about 20 normal trains (the train number starts with a K, T, or Z) running between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The trains depart from Guangzhou Railway Station and arrive at Shenzhen, Shenzhen West, and Shenzhen East railway stations.
These trains are slower than high-speed trains, taking you to Shenzhen in 2 to 3 hours. They are only useful when you need to save every cent of your budget.
First, take a train from Guangzhou to Shenzhen. No matter which railway station you arrive at, you can take the metro or bus to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. The journey from the railway stations to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport may take about 1½ hours.
There are many coach/bus stations both in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The duration of the journey between both cities is about 1½ to 2 hours.
Every day, there are hundreds of coaches running between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The service time is from 05:35 to 22:00 in Shenzhen and from 04:00 to 23:00 in Guangzhou.
Be aware that the coaches only offer limited facilities and services. There are also great challenges for overseas travelers to find the stations, book the tickets, and get on the vehicles, and you are not recommended to take the night coach for safety concerns.
