Taiyuan Wusu International Airport is located south of Taiyuan, 18 kilometers away from the downtown. Direct flights to major cities of China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chengdu, Guilin, Nanjing, Shenyang and Xi'an are available. Tourists can take airport shuttle buses at 158 Yingze Street in the downtown. The ticket price is RMB 15. Taiyuan is the terminal station of Beijing — Yuanping Line and Shijiazhuang — Taiyuan Line. At the same time, Taiyuan is also the starting station of Taiyuan — Jiaozuo Line. There are lines connecting Taiyuan with tens of large or medium-sized cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu, Baotou, etc. Each day, more than 20 trains pass or terminate Taiyuan. The Taiyuan Railway station is in the east end of the Yingze Avenue. Passengers can take the city bus line 1, 5, 21 to get to the railway station directly.
There are several bullet trains every day heading to Beijing, such as D192/D193, D2002, D2012, D2010, D2006, D2004, and D2014. A single trip takes about three and a half hours.
Travelers can take train K7802 from Taiyuan to Datong, and it takes about 6 hours.
The highway network of Taiyuan is well-developed. It takes just five hours from Taiyuan to Beijing by car. There are direct buses from Taiyuan to Mount Wutaishan (four hours' drive), Datong (five hours' drive) and Pingyao Ancient Town (two hours' drive) at Taiyuan Long-distance Bus Station.
There is a freeway connecting the Taiyuan City with the Pingyuan City. It offers great conveniences for those who want to visit the Wutai Mountain from Taiyuan. In the Taiyuan Long-distance bus station, there are tourist cars. Passengers can take those cars to get to the Wutai Mountain, Hunyuanxuankong Temple and the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda directly. The ticket is 50 yuan.
Besides, there is a VOLVO-car station near the Power Building. Passengers can take cars to get to the Datong City directly. It will take around 5 hours and the ticket is 70 yuan.
Passengers can also take cars to get to the ancient city of ping yao at the Taiyuan Long-distance bus station. It will take 2 hours and the ticket is around 10 yuan.
In Taiyuan, public transportation enables visitors to go to scenic spots conveniently. Passengers can take city bus line 308 or 804 in front of the railway station to get to the Jinci Temple. The ticket is 1 yuan and 2 yuan separately. The last bus departs at 19:30. In addition, passengers can also take the bus line 308 to get there. The ticket is 2 yuan.
The starting price is 7 Yuan for the first 3 kilometers and 1 yuan per kilometer thereafter. At night, the fare for the first three kilometers is 7.8 Yuan and 1.2 Yuan per kilometer thereafter.
