The Three Gorges Museum is a large, modern and interesting museum in which to spend a few hours. It is a fascinating place to learn about the region and its history. Displays teach about one of the biggest dams in the world, the Three Gorges Dam.

January is a low travel month except for the period around the Chinese New Year that might be in January. The holiday is January about one out of three years. This public vacation period greatly increases the price of tickets and accommodations, and there are big noisy crowds.
Otherwise, it is a prime month to travel if you want low prices and less tourist crowding. Chongqing has 72-hour visa free visits. You can tour the large region of the city without a visa and save money and time.
