Chongqing Weather in June 2026: Hot, Rainy, and Humid

Written by Lyris Lu Updated Apr. 22, 2026

Chongqing in June is hot and one of the wettest months. It feels quite similar to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, when heat, rain, humidity, and strong sunshine all come in the same day.

Temperature: mostly it's 27-33℃ (81-91℉) during daytime, with 70-90% humidity. Sometimes it will drop to cool 23℃ (73℉)or rise to sweltering 38 ℃ (100℉). But such fluctuations are usually short-lived, appearing only on a few scattered days in June.

Rainfall: it sees more thundershowers and rains about half the month, with around 220 mm of rainfall. But the rain doesn't last all day. Usually intervals in late afternoon or at night.

Will the Heat and Rainfall Affect My Travel Plans?

Indeed, on hot June days, when you're climbing the slopes and stairs in Chongqing, the mountain city, you'll sweat more easily. So you may feel hotter than the temperature shown in the forecast.

But most June days stay below 35℃ (95℉), so if you're planning a family trip, it is still more manageable than July and August with more 40℃ (104℉) days.

Schedule your days well, and you can still have a good trip. Plan sunnier outdoor sights like Kuixinglou and Liziba in the morning, then save shady or indoor spots for the hotter afternoon, such as Shancheng Alley, Three Gorges Museum, and air-raid shelters.

June also sees frequent rain, but it is usually short showers. Often, it stops within the time you have a meal or a cup of tea, so it rarely disrupts your whole day.

But Yangtze River can turn muddy after storms. If you want to take a Yangtze River Cruise or Wujiang Gallery boat ride, go in early-mid June when there is fewer heavy rains.

5 Best Things to Do in June in Chongqing

As June is a popular month for family trips, I've picked a few activities that work well for all ages for you to reference.

1. Explore Old-Chongqing in Ciqikou Ancient Town

If you look for a place to feel the strongest old Chongqing culture, Ciqikou Ancient Town is the best.

When you wander through shady mountain lanes with murals or stone streets with beautiful red lanterns, every quiet corner feels photo-worthy and perfect to share on social media. The experience continues as you explore small shops tucked inside traditional stilted houses.

Your kids will be happy to try local snacks like sugar painting and mahua. They might also get curious when the guide talks about old private school life here. And in 1949 Theater, the 360° rotating stage will both amaze and move you with the wartime Chongqing story.

And seniors can often enjoy the nostalgic side of the town. Sit down in an old teahouse and watch Sichuan opera. Stroll along the riverside streets, feeling the old Chongqing port culture or browsing pottery and porcelain handicrafts. Everyone can move at their own pace.

2. Take a Street Food Adventure in Guanyinqiao

30℃+ weather...will I still want hotpot and street food? Will outdoor food streets feel too hot or suddenly rainy? What if I'm traveling with kids, seniors, or non-spicy eaters?

I get your concerns! That's why Guanyinqiao works so well. It's Chongqing's biggest food hub, indoors and fully air-conditioned. You can enjoy the food without the sunburn or sudden rain.

You'll find local snacks and popular eats from across China here. From spicy noodles, tofu puddings to pan-fried buns and wonton, you'll quickly realise your appetite is back. Everyone in your family can find something they enjoy with different flavors.

After eating, there is plenty to explore nearby. Large malls are great for everyone. Beicang Artistic Street is ideal for creative and colorful stuffs. While Fangyuan Live is a fun stop for teens and kids who love anime goods. Whatever your style, you can easily find a shopping spot that suits you.

3. Catch Chongqing's Summer Sunsets

As temperatures rise, sunsets become more vibrant in June. Around 7:00-7:30 pm, you'll catch Chongqing's "Manhattan-style" or a "La La Land"-like sunset.

  • If you prefer something more adventurous, choose the Raffles Exploration Deck

Your sunset experience becomes more adventurous when you swing and take a skywalk along the rooftop edge over 230 meters above the ground.

Kids can also enjoy their fun in a less intense way. Stay indoors behind the floor-to-ceiling glass to witness the sunset, and also experience the MR robotic-arm ride and animation corridor.

  • If you prefer a more relaxing way, head to Nanbin Road

Nanbin Road lies along the Yangtze River, directly facing Chongqing's busiest skyline. You'll enjoy the most cyberpunk-style sunset from the best angle.

Find a riverside bar and sit down for a drink with your friends, or stroll around Clock Tower Square with your family, enjoying a slow and quiet moment in Chongqing.

If you're traveling with different generations, you can also divide into two groups and enjoy different activities. Feel free to contact us.

4. Take a Relaxing Two River Night Cruise

Don't want to miss Chongqing's cyberpunk night view, but feel too tired to go after daytime walking? A 1-hour cruise along the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers is the perfect way to slow down.

Sit back with your family on the deck or cabin. In June, the evening river breeze feels especially cool and refreshing on the cruise. You'll slowly pass Hongya Cave, sail-shaped Raffles City, the confluence of the two rivers, bridges, and even Yangtze River Cableway over your head.

Best time: In June, city lights usually turn on around 8:00 pm, so boarding around 7:50 pm is ideal. The skyline lights up just as your cruise begins. On Saturdays, you'll also catch the drone show around 8:30 pm during the ride.

Best Pier: Head to Chaotianmen No.7 Dock. It has larger and more comfortable boutique-style boats with fewer crowds. Hongya Cave Dock is always crowded with long queues, not ideal for going.

You can upgrade to a VIP cabin after boarding. It gives you a quieter private deck space to enjoy a more relaxed family moment on board with tea and desserts.

5. Escape the Heat at Fairy Mountain in Wulong

In early summer, Fairy Mountain is refreshing at around 27℃ (81℉), best to escape from Chongqing's downtown heat. No need for much walking, you'll have Thomas train transfer you.

You can take a slow walk across the green meadows and forests. Or just simply enjoy a camping or picnic time. Not far away, your kids are playing safely among the sheep and cattle, and your guide will keep an eye on their safety.

And you can truly relax yourself. Lie back on a mat, gaze at the blue sky, and let your thoughts drift with the clouds, while the laughter of your children and the soft sound of horse bells echo in the background. It feels just like a Miyazaki-style summer scene.

What to Wear in Chongqing in June

Clothing: bring light and cool clothes like T-shirts, shorts, skirts, breathable shoes, or sandals.

Sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses, hat. And a light sun-protective clothing. (It's not too hot and sticky to wear in June)

Rain: umbrella for sudden showers.

Mosquito protection: mosquito repellent and light long pants. (Chongqing sees many mosquitoes this month, so wearing long pants in the evening works better when you go along the river.)

Is Chongqing Crowded in June?

If you don't like crowds, try to avoid the Dragon Boat Festival (around June 19-21 in 2026).

It's a short peak period. Chongqing will be crowded with longer queues. But the good news is that hotel prices are still mostly normal, or only rise slightly by 100-300 RMB, not so crazy.

Outside of this period, popular spots like Jiefangbei, Hongya Cave, the Yangtze River Cableway, and Liziba are still quite busy, but you'll find them less packed than during major holidays.
