The emerald green color of the river contrasts with the muddy brown water of the Yangtze. It makes for an interesting half-day side trip before or after a Yangtze cruise.
Shop and Sightsee at Ciqikou
Ciqikou Old Town: This favorite tourist shopping area has old architecture that dates from the era when it was a porcelain manufacturing and merchant center. You can shop for porcelain, silver, tea, souvenirs, and other Chinese products.
Explore Wulong Karst
Wulong Karst: This famed World Heritage listed park is four hours from Chongqing. Early fall is a good time to hike there. There are large caves and three natural stone bridges averaging 200 meters high and 200 meters wide.
See the Pandas
Chongqing Zoo has a fine group of pandas, both the big black and white ones and the cat-like playful red pandas, and other exotic creatures in a large park.
